I had some free time on the weekend, so I went to Bistro Polpo. I used to come around here a lot, and not long after this visit I ended up going again.

Cookies loaded with Edam cheese

They brought these out on the house as soon as I sat down. They were so good I could not stop eating them. The one downside with cookies like these is that they slowly go soft the longer they are kept. They seemed to have been baked earlier in the week, and after a few days the fresh-baked crispness was gone, which was a bit of a shame.

Opening a whole bottle of wine felt like a bit much, so I ordered a bottled beer.

Villa Antinori, a half bottle of wine

The food was too good to just drink beer with, so I ordered a half bottle. It is half the size, but it costs about as much as a decent full bottle. Still, the wine was so good that it was worth every bit of it. It cannot be easy to source a half bottle this good, either.

Gorgonzola pasta

It was a little on the watery side this time, so I ate it with a spoon. With all that gorgonzola, it was seasoned so richly that it would go perfectly as a snack with a full-bodied red wine. The taste itself is excellent, but the plating is a bit monotonous, so getting through a whole plate was not exactly easy. There is a little room for improvement there.

Okinawa brown sugar cookies

These cookies are made with good ingredients and no skimping. Like the cheese cookies, they had gone a bit soft with time, and I am not sure how they will solve that.

And finally, bottarga pasta

The bottarga pasta is good, so I ordered it even though it is a bit pricey, but hmm.. it does overlap somewhat with the gorgonzola pasta. If I was going to order another dish, a tomato sauce one would have been better. The eggplant gratin in particular might have been the smarter choice.

Coffee

As always, a fantastic meal right through to the end. These days the place is packed even without me doing any promoting, and that makes me happy every time I visit. I hope they hit it really big soon.
