One cold day with snow coming down hard, I arranged to meet a friend at Daeseonggwan in Daebang. I had never been, but it is a Chinese-run Chinese restaurant whose name I had heard plenty of times.
The front entrance
It is a bit of a walk from the subway station, but it is close to Yeouido, so a lot of people seem to come over from there. The place was filling up.
Nanjawanseu
Decent enough. There are surely tastier places, but at this level it works fine as a snack to go with drinks.
Oyster jjamppong
The broth was clean and refreshing. Daeseonggwan itself is not quite at the level where you would call it a famous restaurant, but it is well above your neighbourhood Chinese joint. There are not many places this good around here, so it is no surprise it is popular.
Jjajangmyeon
Pretty good.
It is not the kind of place you would travel a long way for on purpose. But if I need a Chinese restaurant nearby, there are not many that do it this well, so I will probably end up going often. I moved from Gangnam to the Sindorim/Daerim area in February, so I need to get busy hunting down the good spots around here too.
