I had a get-together with some regular folks (…) near Sinsa Station, and without much thought we just settled on Sicily. Sicily is tasty, sure, but there is a reason beyond the food that I go this often. Compared with other places it is quiet whenever you go, which makes it just about ideal for a casual gathering. Not crowded, and the food is good, so we could chat about this and that, sample a variety of dishes and have a good time. I only hope they do not end up closing down at this rate.
Ganjang saewoo (soy-marinated raw shrimp)
I have never had really good ganjang saewoo so I cannot say for sure, but it was not bad.
Seop-tang (mussel soup)
Refreshing. The kind of taste that would go perfectly with soju at the second round.

Assorted grilled fish
The grilled fish came in generous portions, and maybe because the weather has turned cold, the quality seemed better than the last time I ordered it.
After wrapping up a light first round like this, for the second round we went to Hanjan-ui Chueok, a beer hall that is major-league famous around Sinsa-dong. When we got there it was absolutely packed and noisy inside. I imagine plenty of people love this kind of atmosphere.
Fried squid
They deep-fry the squid in big pieces, so scissors were a must to eat it. The frying style is old-school bunsik snack-shop style and the portions are big, so I could see why it is popular. The menu has tteokbokki, they sell fried chicken too, and it is full of items optimised for going with beer.
Fried stuffed peppers
This is the place’s most famous dish: green chili peppers stuffed with minced meat. Generous portions for the price, and a top-notch snack to go with drinks.

And my blog turns ten this week. I do not have any grand plans, but I am thinking of having a small get-together with people I know. Something is in the works online too, though I am not sure it will be finished by the weekend. I am not expecting lots of visits or comments going forward; I will just keep quietly posting like I do now. For the time being, probably..
