I heard a rumour that Tori Pub, a new place in Hongdae, was running a promotion. It was a chance to drink Suntory beer on the cheap, and I was curious what kind of place it was, so after our get-together at Ichiryu wrapped up, we dropped in briefly for round two.
The front entrance
Go up to the second floor and there is quite a lot of seating. The third floor has some cafe-like seating too.
Light snacks
Nothing special.
Suntory The Premium Malt’s
Well, it tastes just as you would expect. Memories of drinking it at the Suntory brewery in Japan flashed before my eyes. In any case, it is nice that so many imported beers are coming in these days.
Real Saewookkang (Korean prawn crackers)
Tiny shrimp, deep-fried. A decent snack to go with beer. I wonder if they brought the plate over from Japan.
Gloves
Eating this way seems to be the trend these days, but this was my first time trying it. Pretty handy, actually.
Kaku highball
Had to have a highball too.
After a while the snacks ran out with some beer still left, and right on cue a complimentary snack came out. So we each ordered another beer. The manager seems to have a good sense for this sort of thing.
Overall it is a pub with a nice atmosphere, but with so many beer places around these days, I am not sure it has any particular edge. Still, there was a discount that day and we got a free beer glass, so I did feel it was worth going.
