Kura Sushi is just an ordinary chain sushi place. What sets it apart is probably the gacha: eat five plates and you get one spin. From what I can tell, roughly one in five spins actually wins something, so a family that goes there usually eats enough to walk out with one or two prizes. The odds of getting exactly the one you want are low, though… you’d probably have to go at least three or four times before a decent one shows up. Anyway… enough about the gacha. Setting the gacha system aside, I think Sushiro’s sushi itself is a bit better, but the menus are different anyway and both are equally cheap, so wherever you go it’s more or less the same.
This is the place
It’s popular, so the parking lot is packed.
Inside
There are self-checkout machines. Pretty high-tech, actually.
Toro fair
The prices were all reasonable… The Ebiten Mountain caught my eye, but I didn’t end up ordering it.
All kinds of menu items
There’s ramen too, plenty of variety.
Ikura
The quality of the standard items isn’t bad.
Avocado
Ordered it because it was cheap…
The plate slot where you play the gacha
Drop your finished plates in and you get to spin the gacha.
Toro gunkan
This one was just so-so…
Aburi salmon
Salmon is only good when it’s seared… If you look closely the rice portion is a little small: you can order it with half the shari. What a great option to have…
French onion soup
This was actually pretty good.
Akami
Ordinary.
Clam
The clam is good. Nice and fresh, too.
White fish
So-so…
Seared pork kalbi
There’s sushi topped with meat too, and it’s surprisingly decent. It felt like samgyeopsal arranged with a somewhat stronger flavor.
One more plate of avocado
Works fine as a salad substitute…
Clam
The shellfish here is fresh and tasty.
I think this was aji.
Nothing special. But it’s cheap, so no complaints.
I ate my fill that day and spun the gacha with my plates a few times, but none of the main-character-level figures from the Detective Conan event came out. You can’t really expect one to show up on a single visit… Anyway, kids love this place thanks to that gacha, which is probably why it’s so much a family-oriented restaurant.
