I’d booked a place to stay in Shinjuku and went out for dinner, but that neighborhood doesn’t really have that many places to eat. So I went into a chain restaurant with reasonable prices and reasonable food. It’s a skewer specialist, and for about 3,000 yen a head you can eat pretty well.
Asparagus and green pepper
Even though it’s a chain, the asparagus was wonderfully fresh. I think this is one of Japan’s strengths: wherever you go, they get the basics right.
Tomato and green onion
With ingredients this good, it tastes great even when it’s just casually grilled. At a top-tier place you’d get extraordinary ingredients, but in Shinjuku I’m just grateful for this much. Maybe that’s why the place is always packed.
The last skewers
I ate a reasonable amount and got up at a reasonable point. It’s not an amazing place, but it’s fine for getting a meal in.
