I went to Angel’s Share for a get-together.

The Glenlivet Nàdurra, Lochside, GlenDronach Sherry Cask CS

This time we’d asked the bar in advance and drank the whisky we’d brought along in a corner of the shop: The Glenlivet Nàdurra, Lochside and GlenDronach CS. Nàdurra is one of the better-rated Glenlivets, but it can’t help losing out to a big, strong whisky like a CS. After a short warm-up with it we opened the Lochside first, and it turned out to be a clean, light whisky. It did improve after sitting in the glass for a while, but it was more ordinary than I’d expected. I’d had high hopes, so it was a bit of a letdown, but there must be people who love this style; it just didn’t quite match my taste. The GlenDronach CS is one seriously powerful sherry whisky. Great nose, sweet and punchy. In a way it’s an easy-to-drink, easy-to-understand whisky. Along with Glenfarclas, it has to be one of the best value-for-money whiskies out there.

Hand-carved ice. The mood at the gathering was really good that night. Booze really does have a way of making people friends in no time.

Chicken at Reggae Chicken

For round two we moved to a chicken place nearby. It seems to be Jamaican-themed, and the chicken has a bit of herbs and spices in it. It tastes a little different from your usual Korean fried chicken, but I liked it. Some people apparently say it’s not good, and I can see it being a bit of a love-it-or-hate-it thing depending on taste.

Draft beer

Decent enough. Nice for a glass. The mood was good enough that we went on to a second round, so I’d call the night a success.
