I had heard there was a great fruit shop in Waikiki, but I wondered whether it was really worth the trip. Fruit is something you can just buy at the supermarket, after all. In fact, the papaya I bought at the ABC Store this time was so rich it almost rivalled a mango, which took me by surprise. Still, if a place is famous there is probably a reason, and it was right next to the hotel, so I dropped by.

This is the place.

It is a really tiny shop. And with a car rental company right next door, at first I thought it was the rental office.

The owner is Japanese, so the shop name is written in kanji.

The clerk did not speak much Japanese, though. His English was good.

Well.. the fruit was not bad. Though it was not that different from what you get at the ABC Store..

The freezer

Surprisingly, though, the ice cream is the real deal.

Mango ice cream

This ice cream keeps the flavour of the mango fully intact. The pineapple ice cream was already that good, and the mango ice cream is even better. For this ice cream alone I would want to come back again and again. So that is why it is famous.

Back at the hotel

They sold sandwiches too, not expensive and decent enough. Good for a quick snack. If I ever go back to Hawaii, this is a place I would want to drop by a couple of times.
