One weekend I dropped by Échiré in Marunouchi. The line was as long as ever.

The one saving grace was that it was not as bad as before. But the cake I wanted to buy was nowhere to be seen. T.T

Hidemi Sugino

So I dropped by Hidemi Sugino, another famous cake shop. It is in Kyobashi, so it was not that far on foot.

Pain au chocolat

Bought this at Échiré. It might just be the best pain au chocolat in Tokyo. There are places that are just as good, but I do not think there is anywhere better.

At Hidemi Sugino, the takeout cakes and the eat-in cakes are a completely different lineup. The eat-in cakes look far more tempting, which is why the line is so long. So I did not expect much from the takeout, but the chestnut flavor came through rich and deep. Just what you would expect from a popular shop.

Cake no. 2

Very tasty, as expected. The jam in the middle is exquisite. With looks this beautiful and flavor this good, no wonder it is popular.

Échiré was delicious, and Hidemi Sugino is superb. My Tokyo cake shop tour may be over, but I will have to drop by now and then.
