I knew Sadaharu Aoki was famous, but I do not remember ever buying anything there other than chocolate. The prices are steep and the cakes look so flashy that I had always been a bit put off. But with my Tokyo cake tour nearly over, I somehow felt I had to try them at least once, so I picked some up.

The colours are really vivid. They almost look like cheap candy-store sweets.

The design is as pretty as a Pierre Gagnaire cake. But contrary to what I expected, the taste is excellent too. So that is why Sadaharu Aoki is so popular.

There is a big piece of spun-sugar work on top. Amazing design. And of course the taste is excellent too. I should have tried these much sooner.
Choux cream puff
The choux cream puff was just a bit ordinary. Not that I had expected much from it.
I had no idea that cakes as pretty as Sadaharu Aoki’s could taste this good too. I will have to make this a regular stop from now on.
