With spring here, I went to Isetan in Shinjuku to buy a messenger bag, and while I was at it I ended up dropping by a cafe.
The front entrance
It is a cafe near Isetan. Not on the ground floor but in the basement, and the not-so-big space was absolutely packed. Maybe because it was past lunchtime, a seat opened up quickly though.
French toast
This is the house specialty. The ads call it the number one French toast in Tokyo. Maybe there is a lot of egg in it, because it is incredibly soft and slightly sweet, the kind of thing the ladies would love. Put some whipped cream on top and it gets even better. Perhaps that is why the ratio of women in the shop was so high. If you think of French toast alone it seems like a dessert, so I was not sure it would work as lunch, but it comes with a generous salad, so it made a great meal. The coffee is supposed to be good too. At around 800 yen, the value for money has to be top class.
Panini
Unlike the French toast, this one is not sweet. It was full of cheese inside, but there was not much in the way of toppings other than the cheese. The taste itself is fine. The minestrone soup that came with it was good too. You cannot see it in the photo because it is hidden, but the brownie packed with chocolate chips was also an excellent dessert.
This place looks like a good option for women who want a light lunch in Shinjuku. I have had a few reasons to go to Shinjuku lately, so I should look harder for some good places to eat.
