We had a year-end home party, plus a few other things eaten and drunk at home, so here they all are in one post.
Compass Box Whisky de Table
This might be the first whisky I’ve had that’s actually good served cold. It’s built on young Islay malt, so the peat is strong, but once it’s chilled it goes down easy. These people really know how to make whisky.
Teaninich
The one with the dolphins on the label. I bought it because I’d heard it was good, and it is well made, but it’s just not quite my thing. Plain, or maybe a little dull..
Inchgower
A fairly rare whisky, and this one I really liked. There’s a hefty barley flavour to it.
Apple tart from Qu’il fait bon
Qu’il fait bon is something you have to eat on a regular basis.
Seasonal fruit tart
Outstanding. I don’t think you can really talk about Tokyo desserts without having eaten this.
Croissant sandwiches from Le Pain Quotidien
Le Pain Quotidien just doesn’t have a bad item on the menu..
Kang Ho-dong Chicken
Why this place has a queue of over an hour from the morning of Christmas Eve is beyond me..
Street scene in Shin-Okubo
The streets between Kabukicho and Shin-Okubo have all been developed now. It’s come a remarkably long way.
Paris-Brest
The Christmas cake I ordered from the N.Y. Lounge Boutique at the InterContinental hotel. A big success..
