Asahi Beer has its headquarters in Asakusa, and there are quite a few restaurants run directly by the company. 23banchi Cafe is one of them, and with head-office staff stationed there, the beer can only be good.
Shitamachi Ale
A small-batch brew with a distinctive, refreshing taste. Recommended to anyone who knows their beer~
Laugen dog
A German-style hot dog. Somehow it goes really well with beer. I ordered it as a light stand-in for a meal, and it was pretty good.
Croquette
They advertise this as the 23banchi Cafe specialty, but the taste was not anything exceptional. It is cheap and fried to order, so it works fine as a light snack with your beer.
Pouring the beer
You cannot really see it in the photo, but they pour the beer until the foam spills over the rim of the glass, then dunk the whole glass in ice-cold water full of ice, wipe it with a cloth and serve it. It had never occurred to me to pour beer until the foam overflows, but come to think of it, that might be the tastiest way to drink it.
I also ordered the menchi katsu.
Not quite on the level of Satou in Kichijoji, but it was pretty good.
