Plaisir, a cake shop in Sangenjaya, is one of the very best cake shops in Tokyo, but it is so far off the beaten path that I only just got around to going.
The front entrance
You get off at Sangenjaya Station and then have to walk quite a way. Come to think of it, most of the famous cake shops in Tokyo seem to be tucked away in quiet residential areas.
Sicilienne
A pistachio cake, and a really high-level one. Rich yet clean on the palate, which left an impression.
Parfum
I would say this is the cake that represents the shop.
Cross-section
A bit messy, but this is what the inside looks like. The outside is fluffy and soft, while the inside is rich in flavor. None of the ingredients is anything simple. It was a bit of a trek all the way out to Sangenjaya, but the cake was so good that the time and effort felt completely worth it.
