Something came up and I had to rush down to Jeonju, so I took the express bus. The train was already sold out and I could not get a seat. Once I got to Jeonju, the place I went for lunch was Waengi Kongnamul Gukbap.
The sign
With not much time to spare, I wanted something quick, so after ruling out bibimbap and hanjeongsik (a Korean full-course meal), kongnamul gukbap (bean sprout soup with rice) was the easiest choice. I took a taxi from the express bus terminal, asked for Waengi Kongnamul Gukbap, and the fare came to exactly 4,000 won.
Moju
They bring out warm moju (a sweet, spiced makgeolli). Perfect for a bit of daytime drinking.
Side dishes
All of them were pretty good.
Poached eggs
Topped with bean sprouts and a little broth, they were light and delicious. I did not know until I tried it, but this is a better way to enjoy the clean taste of the broth than dropping the egg straight into the gukbap. The eggs were so good that I asked for one more, and they brought it right over. I liked the service too.
Today’s main, kongnamul gukbap
The broth is refreshing. Whatever they make the stock from, a deep flavor comes through. This is definitely worth a special trip.
After the meal, I took a quick spin around the Hanok Village nearby. It is better set up as a tourist spot than I expected. I only had time for a rough look this time, but if I get the chance I would like to walk around it slowly.
The cathedral
In the Hanok Village, this cathedral and Gyeonggijeon Shrine seem to be the most famous spots.
Hanok Village scenery
Being the weekend, there were quite a few people around. I had a quick look and headed for my next destination.
