I heard there was a cream puff shop in Ningyocho that people line up for, so I dropped by one Saturday. They sell freshly made cream puffs in limited numbers three times a day, at 9, 12 and 5, and they sell out within fifteen minutes of going on sale, so buying them after work on a weekday is impossible, and they are closed on Sundays, which left Saturday as the only time I could go.
The front entrance
From the outside it looks like an ordinary neighborhood cake shop, so it felt strange that people would queue for it. I arrived around 5:10 and just managed to buy two before heading home.
The line for the cream puffs
They are limited to 120, so they go fast.
The day’s haul
The regular cake tasted ordinary. The fresh cream was good, but the overall balance falls a bit short of what I would call a top-tier shop.
Inside the cream puff
The custard cream inside melts smoothly on the tongue. I never knew a cream puff could be this good. It is worth timing your visit and standing in line for, so I will probably be dropping by now and then on weekends.
