I had been to Shirogane Baru once before, and since someone requested going again, we decided to head there this time too.
Gelateria Acqua Pazza
Before going to Shirogane Baru I got off at Hiroo Station and stopped by a gelato shop. I do not get to Hiroo often, so this was the moment to drop in on a place I had been meaning to try. They make gelato from fresh fruit, though the prices are a bit steep.
Watermelon + mango gelato
The watermelon gelato genuinely tasted like biting into a cold slice of watermelon, which blew me away. The mango tasted almost exactly like the fresh fruit too. How do you even make gelato this good.. it made me want to learn the know-how and open a branch myself..
A glass of sangria
The sangria here is good, so I ordered one.
Jamon
Great quality.
Shima-aji gazpacho
The flesh is nice and firm. What sets it apart from ordinary sashimi is the generous amount of olive oil. Both the freshness and the flavour are good.
Trippa stewed in tomato
No off smell at all, really tasty. Come to think of it, Spanish bars have multiplied in Tokyo lately. There are plenty worth checking out.
House-made bread
They charge for it separately, but we needed something to mop up the sauce.
Beer (Cruzcampo)
Drinkable enough.
Fried calamari
Good with drinks.
Shrimp in garlic and olive oil
It uses a lot of olive oil, yet it is not heavy at all, quite clean tasting.
Herb potatoes
Salty, but strangely delicious. It went well with the beer..
Skewers
I ordered these just to try them, and they were so-so.
After eating well we moved on to AFURI, the ramen shop in Ebisu, for round two.
Yuzu shio cold ramen
It was summer so I went for the cold ramen. A touch below the original, but still tasty.. The chashu, though, felt like it had slipped compared to before.
The noodles
It does not match naengmyeon, but as a summer treat it was pretty good.
It had been ages since my last visit to AFURI. It is still hugely popular, but maybe because they have opened a new branch, the taste seems to have changed a little from what I remember. More and more ramen shops worth visiting keep appearing, so I am not too worried about it..
