Those who want to call it a night after round two head home… and for round three we go to 2chef. The course menu at 2chef is excellent, but it is also an easy place to drop by late at night for a glass of wine.

Today’s wine 1

This is the Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos des Forets Saint-Georges, the flagship wine of Domaine de l’Arlot, famous in Burgundy for its organic farming. 2005 was a good vintage and the vineyard is a fine one, so I had high hopes, and sure enough the floral aromas and the smooth finish were lovely. A wine that draws you in even while you keep telling yourself you mustn’t fall for Burgundy.

Chateau Palmer 2004

Palmer is a wine from the Margaux region, famous for appearing as the Second Apostle in The Drops of God. There is relatively more of it around, so it is probably among the most affordable of the Apostle wines. True to Margaux, it tasted good even opened early. I do wonder whether a little more breathing time would have helped, but even as it was it was plenty wonderful.
