An acquaintance of mine is the sales director at a restaurant in Hyoja-dong, so I paid a visit. I’ve lived in Seoul all this time and had only ever heard the name of the neighbourhood, never actually been, but once there I found it had a really calm atmosphere. I had no idea there were places like this in Korea. If I’d known sooner, I might have considered living around here.
Minestrone
This was the special of the day, and this place can definitely cook. They create complex flavours out of simple-looking ingredients. Prices are a little on the high side, but the food is satisfying enough to justify it.
An eggplant dish, if I remember right..
It was a long time ago so I don’t remember much, but it went nicely with the wine.
The wine they recommended (Cesari Boscarel)
The food is excellent, and they have a sharp eye for wine too. At a place like this, I think you could just leave everything to them, omakase-style, without a second thought.
Pasta
Back in Korea I’ve been getting my good pasta fix at 2chef, and this place also serves pasta with really solid fundamentals.

Because I drink a fair bit, they brought out a bottle from their cellar. How kind is that! And it tasted great, of course. Hyoja-dong is a bit far from my place, but I think I’ll have to drop by now and then. Lately, though, I’ve been so busy I don’t even have time to post on the blog, let alone visit good restaurants. It really hurts.
