Mitsumasa, a Skewer Joint in Shinbashi

I went back for another try at Mitsumasa, where last time I left without eating properly. This time I wanted to enjoy the real taste of pork skewers.

Starting with beer

mitumasa

Summer is hot, so all the more reason to start with a beer.

A Kirin “Manten Nama” shop

mitumasa

It’s a plaque certifying this as a place Kirin itself has picked for great draft beer. There’s a reason the beer tastes so good.

Assorted platter for two

mitumasa

They bring out a nice spread of just the best skewers the place does. The taste is fantastic, but I thought it might be just as good to order each one separately.

Shiro

mitumasa

It’s an offal cut. It was a bit different from the horumon I’d been expecting, but it was nice and chewy.

Liver, heart and shishito

mitumasa

I order a bit of this and that. The shishito peppers were really hot that day. They’re normally supposed to be sweet, but I guess some days are like that.

Highballs in summer~

mitumasa

For my second drink I ordered a highball, and it was nice and refreshing. The whisky wasn’t named, but it seemed to be a Yamazaki highball.

Tontoro

mitumasa

It’s pork from the head, and more than half of it is fat. I’d say this is the true essence of pork skewers.

I kept it light, ate about this much and left. The one letdown here is that there’s no carb dish to finish with. So I head to Shinjuku to make up for the carbs I missed.
