Since Hongdae is fairly close to my place (about 30 minutes by bus..), I end up going around there pretty often. It looks like I’ll keep having reasons to go, so I’d been feeling it was time to start hunting down good places to eat in the area, and then someone recommended one, so off I went. It’s called Captain Haejeok (“Captain Pirate”), and it seemed to be a seafood specialist.

I ordered the octopus shabu-shabu this place is known for.
The pot is bubbling away.
There’s a whole load of kimchi in it.
In goes a live octopus.
It looks spectacular, but the broth is so strong you can barely taste the octopus. I guess I should have just gone for the mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) that was originally recommended..

I’d heard there aren’t many good places to eat in Hongdae, and it really seems that way. Some say it’s because the rents are so high… At least a good jjamppong place opened recently, which is a relief, but I need to find a few more. At this rate I might starve to death in Hongdae.
