Done with our Izumo feast, we headed back to Matsue. On the way we could see the night view over Lake Shinji, so we got out for a bit to take in the lake at night.
Night view
I didn’t have a tripod, so it didn’t come out well. It was cold, too, so I just snapped a few and went back.
We looked around for somewhere to go, but it was Saturday night and most places were packed. No tables anywhere, so after dithering about where to go we just walked into an izakaya nearby. It calls itself a Daisen chicken specialist izakaya, and somehow that felt trustworthy.
Otoshi
This one was pretty ordinary.
Kaki-su (vinegared oysters)
I keep eating these. Winter just means oysters. Seeing how good the quality is, I’m looking forward to the other dishes too.
Oden
This tastes great too, maybe it’s homemade. There’s one big piece of chicken in it. At first I thought, chicken in oden? But one bite and it was really good. We’d all eaten a lot beforehand, so our pace did slow down a bit.
Chicken tataki
Nice and chewy. High-level chicken like this is something I haven’t had in a while.
Charcoal-grilled chicken
I had no idea there was such a good chicken place near home. Cooking it until it falls apart is a bit unusual, but I happily ate it all. There’s a wide menu, but we were so full that we couldn’t order much this time.
Grilled Iberico pork
I’m not especially fond of Iberico pork, but they made it into a tasty drinking snack. I’d only ever walked past this place, but once I actually went in, they’re really good. Who knew such luck would come my way. I’d like to go back again if I get the chance.
Finishing with omurice
It comes with big chunks of chicken. The omurice I like actually has finely chopped chicken, so it’s a bit different. Still, there’s no doubt it’s a well-made omurice.
After eating all that we went home, and since one of our group insisted we absolutely had to drink Burgundy because of the movie Sideways, I opened a Burgundy I’d been saving, Prieure-Roch (Prieure-Roch NUITS 1er Cru 2003 VV), drank it, and went to sleep for the next day. It was really delicious, but I don’t know if I’ll ever find it again.
