I don’t really plan it, but somehow I seem to end up in Roppongi a lot. You can shop and you can eat well, so it’s just convenient in all sorts of ways, I guess. This day I had plans in Roppongi again, so after eating three breakfasts and squeezing in dessert too, I went off to lunch just an hour later.
Vegetable lunch at Danetsu, a Japanese restaurant on the 3rd floor of Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi, part 1
It’s quiet and calm, so it’s a good spot for a get-together. Prices weren’t that high for Roppongi either, so it felt easy to drop in. The food, though, was nothing special.
Part 2
I didn’t really want to go to this kind of place, but for various reasons there wasn’t anywhere else suitable. Maybe because I’d eaten so well at Tsukiji, none of the side dishes or the rice really tempted me.
Anyway, after the meal I took a walk in the park behind Midtown.
Autumn scenery
So refreshing. Lots of dogs and people out for a walk, and kids were running around on ergonomically designed playground equipment. Living in a neighborhood like this looks like fun. The rent… would be a bit steep, though…
Keyakizaka at night
Winter at Roppongi Hills means the Keyakizaka illuminations. The blue LEDs look magical, like freshly fallen snow.
I shot these handheld with my new Pentax K-5, and they came out better than I expected. A tripod would have been nice, and if I’d taken more time I could have gotten some great shots, but I had another appointment, so I kept it quick.
Le Chocolat de H
Keyakizaka is home to Le Chocolat de H, a chocolate specialty shop run by Chef Tsujiguchi of Mont St. Clair in Jiyugaoka, and in both taste and atmosphere it holds its own against the specialty shops that have come over from Europe. I bought some gift chocolates and a few cakes, and when I actually ate them, the cakes weren’t quite up to Mont St. Clair. (Maybe because the popular items had already sold out by the time I got there…) The chocolate is really top-notch, and it’s worth the high price. Again, if I’d had time, I would have liked to relax for a while in the café inside.
Twinkle twinkle, Merry Christmas
Though I’m still deciding which time machine to climb into this Christmas… Civilization or FM2011… It falls on a weekend, so there might be some drinks on the day, but I’m not expecting much.

Tokyo Tower
Romantic. Maybe the most romantic scene of this winter. Though winter has only just begun…
