Before the big wave of Tokyo posts, let me start with Naniwa Sushi, where I went for the first time in a while. I booked ahead and had a reasonable amount. The sushi was as good as ever.
Nodoguro
Today’s neta, all very fresh. Their nodoguro sushi never disappoints.
Sake to go with it..
It wasn’t junmai, but all drinks are the same once you’re drunk anyway, so I don’t really care -_-
Otoshi
The little snack you get when you order a drink. It seemed to be soy-marinated tuna…
Buri on the right, chutoro on the left.
The fat on the buri is a work of art. You can already taste the season coming in. Chutoro needs no explanation.
Nodoguro
You have to have it aburi, seared, so the fat melts and the real flavour comes out. Fantastic as always.
Aji
Pretty big, isn’t it. Nicely fleshed out and rich. I’m so glad summer is over.. I was really happy to finally be able to eat good sushi again.
Ika
It comes sprinkled with salt. Nice and chewy.
Ebi
The ebi here are really big.
Uni
Premium ingredients, served without holding back. There are people in the world who can’t eat uni. Kind of a pity for them..
Anago
It melts softly, like chocolate.
Crab
I thought it was a bit early in the season for crab, but it’s delicious like this.
Octopus
I do love octopus.
Unagi
Eating it, I was overcome with mixed feelings. Why on earth does this guy run a sushi place when he serves unagi like this? He’d have been a huge hit with an eel restaurant..
Squid legs
A fun piece of sushi. With sushi places you need to go often to try all sorts of things on the menu.
Seared salmon
Salmon is the original aburi fish. Especially autumn salmon, needless to say.
Sazae no tsuboyaki
A big sazae turban shell came out.
Tuna and kanpachi
Time to start wrapping up. They weren’t bad, but somehow they felt like cheaper versions of the buri and chutoro. With this, I’d tasted pretty much every neta they had that day…
Persimmon gratin
A complimentary dish that always hits the spot. That said, it’s a bit rich to finish all by yourself.
Finally, otoro
A knockout flavour. Otoro is so fatty you can’t eat a lot at once, but you absolutely have to have one piece..
A truly delicious dinner. My standards for sushi have gone up so much that I’m going to have to give up on eating sushi just anywhere. Well, there are plenty of delicious things in the world besides sushi, so it won’t be much of a problem..
