Even if the meal itself was a simple hanjeongsik (Korean set meal), a true doenjang-nam (a guy who puts on Western airs) has to finish with French-style dessert, right? It’s not a bakery I particularly love – the kind of place I like is VIRON in Shibuya – but nothing else nearby came to mind, so that’s where I went.

Honestly, the shops around Cheongdam-dong are so luxurious they feel a bit intimidating, so it’s not the kind of atmosphere I prefer. For someone like me who only cares whether the food is good, places with some history and a relaxed vibe, like Hongdae or Jongno, suit me better. But since nearly every trend in Korea comes out of this neighborhood, I’ll probably have plenty of chances to visit for a while. The standard here, and the clientele too, seem to be getting better, so I’ll keep my hopes up.
