Ongjin Naengmyeon in Juan, Incheon

There’s a pretty good naengmyeon place near my home. I’d spent New Year’s Day holed up at home after overdoing it the night before, but then a friend called me out, so I went to the naengmyeon place to nurse my hangover.

Myeonsu (noodle cooking water)

It’s rich, with a flavor similar to Japanese soba-yu. Drinking it warm really relaxes you.

The wood stove

It has a very classic feel. The place was really packed, which surprised me. Of course, if it’s cheap and tasty, people will flock to it. It seems like there are a lot more people than before who come to enjoy their food, not just to fill their stomachs. That’s how quality of life goes up, I guess..

Suyuk (boiled pork)

This suyuk practically begs for soju. It looked great and tasted good, so I praised it, but the person I came with said it was a bit dry. Opinions differ with taste, of course, but I actually think this texture makes it tastier as a drinking snack.

Suyuk and side dishes

The side dishes come with unlimited refills.

Naengmyeon

The broth is a little on the sweet side, which bothers me a bit, but naengmyeon is best in winter after all ^_^ I thought I wouldn’t have time to eat this time, but luckily I managed to have a bowl before leaving. Now I need to start thinking about which naengmyeon place to go to next.
