Pro Ganjang Gejang in Sinsa-dong

Pro Ganjang Gejang in Sinsa-dong might be better known among Japanese people than Koreans. Since I pretty much have to go to Korean restaurants when I’m in Korea, I was looking around for somewhere to go and ended up here. Honestly, the Korean friends I meet up with probably find it a bit of a chore. It’s the Korean food they eat every day, and they have to tag along just because of me.. But really, I just don’t know what else to eat in Korea besides Korean food.. For that reason I haven’t been going out to eat anything special, and I feel like my posts are getting more and more boring. I’m not happy with it myself. Right now I’ve got a lot on my plate and I’m not feeling great, so I’ll probably just stay home, but sooner or later I’ll have to take off somewhere, I guess..

Looks like they’ve made some money. I never imagined it would turn out like this, but it’s been transformed into a totally modern design. They must get a lot of Japanese customers.

Ganjang gejang, small..

Whether you order a small or a large, you get two crabs either way; only the size differs. One small is 55,000 won, so
it’s definitely not cheap. They’ve put up a new building, so a price rise is only natural, and Japanese tourists will pay even if it’s a bit pricey, which is probably why the pricing changed like this, but I think it’s gone up way too much.

Maesaengi soup

It was served nice and clean. I was very happy with it.

Basic banchan

Well.. in Korea this much is standard, but Japanese visitors would be pleased..

Actually, when we walked in, the plan was for the two of us to order one ganjang gejang and one agujjim (spicy braised monkfish) and get out for about 70,000-80,000 won, but that money only got us the ganjang gejang and the maesaengi soup. It really hurt.. Lately there’s been a fuss about cheap gejang using Chinese crabs.. Even so, I need to find a place that’s tasty without being too expensive.

And of course dessert couldn’t be skipped this time either, right? We went to a place on Garosu-gil called Royal Cupcake or something like that.

They seemed to be saying it’s all made with carefully selected organic ingredients -_-;; but with this much butter in it, there’s no way it’s good for you. It’s just window dressing. Still, that kind of marketing really works. Just like how everyone mistakes dairy products for health food even though they all contain more fat than you need.

Black tea..

I like sweet things but not rich, heavy ones, so it wasn’t my kind of thing. And while this is largely down to the neighborhood, the prices were a bit steep for the atmosphere, so I doubt I’ll be going back much.
