April was so busy that after I got back from Kyoto I didn’t go anywhere and just worked. Then one day a friend asked if I wanted to go see some sculptures made of sand, so off we went.
On the way we stopped for a meal at a seafood set-meal place.
Amaebi sashimi
Why is amaebi called amaebi? Because it’s sweet (amai). It was pricey, but the flesh really was sweet. Still, the portion was small, so I was a bit disappointed..

It’s decent enough. You could get this much at pretty much any set-meal place near home..
The view from the Tottori Sand Dunes
We drove along at an easy pace and got to the dunes, only to find nothing there. -_-;;; When we asked, they said the event was being held about 1.5 km from the dunes. So off we trudged on foot in the heat.
This is the event.
The sculptures are themed on the Izumo myths. Apparently every sand sculpture on display is made of nothing but sand and water.
