Tsukimura, a Kamameshi Restaurant in Kyoto

So here it is, finally my last Kyoto post. ^_^ Having come all the way to Kyoto, I felt I’d been eating pretty carelessly so far, so I went looking for a kamameshi place with a good reputation on Tabelog. It’s called Tsukimura, tucked away in a corner of Gion.

This is what the sign looks like. It’s a small place, so if you don’t book, you need to get in right when it opens.

“Toriaezu nama~” — first things first, I order a beer.

The little snack that comes with it is cute.

Chicken liver, ordered as a nibble (not 100% sure that’s what it is)

It’s pretty pricey, but I have no complaints about the taste.

I guess the Korean equivalent would be dolsot yeongyangbap (stone-pot nutritious rice)? The ingredients didn’t look like anything special, but it was tastier than I expected. The sauce had soaked right through. The only problem… this one pot cost about 3,000 yen… Dishes like this are a bit expensive in Japan to begin with, but this place is seriously expensive. Still, it tasted good, so I wasn’t disappointed…

The soup…

This didn’t look like much either, but it was delicious…

I’d rate this Kyoto trip a success, in its own way. I’m already looking forward to where in Kyoto I’ll visit next autumn and what I’ll eat…
