I was in Tokyo for the first time in a while, and a friend said there was a decent neighborhood sushi place near his home and that we should go.
This is the owner.

The set I ordered
It comes with ikura, uni, anago and even toro, all for 1,000 yen. The value for money is truly unbeatable. I do wonder how they stay in business charging this little… But it tastes more ordinary than it looks. The fish was only so-so on freshness, and the fatal flaw was the rice: it had gone cold and hard, which is all wrong for sushi. Well, it’s a neighborhood sushi shop, so what can you do. To my taste, the tuna roll was the best of the lot.

Very ordinary in taste, but hey… considering the price, I’m just grateful.
The outside.
As you can see, the donburi dishes are 500 yen. It’s the kind of place you’d find in any neighborhood, where you’d drop in now and then on the way home from work, order a few pieces of sushi and have a draft beer with friends from the area. As long as places like this exist, Tokyo is a pretty good place to live.
