Here’s a mixed bag of food for you.
Dubai chewy cookies
So they come in this form now too.
Single malt Yoichi and Miyagikyo
You can find them just about anywhere these days. Feels like the boom is slowly fading.
Buldak curry
Looks like some new characters are showing up with it.
MEDiHEAL
Spotted this at Workman, so I snapped a photo. Clothes that help you recover from fatigue while you sleep are a big thing in Japan right now.
Otoko Ume Sour
With the weather heating up, this kind of thing is getting popular.
Menya Saimi’s Sapporo miso ramen
This isn’t a packet ramen, it’s frozen ramen. It’s a collab with Lawson, and if you look closely there are three stars under the L. Being frozen, it’s dead easy to make, and it tastes great too. It’s a rich miso soup base with ginger used really well, which gives it a fresh feel: a new-generation miso ramen. I liked it so much it made me want to go to Hokkaido.
And while eating it, it struck me that HIKAKIN’s ramen tasted exactly like this, so maybe this is where miso ramen is trending these days. Where it used to be all about richness, it’s become a bit more varied, I’d say.
Wakayama fully ripe Nanko ume
I’m hooked on ume lately so I bought this, but it was just okay..
Otoko Ume Sour
This one wasn’t especially good either..
Calbee Ethnican
These are potato chips that are supposedly popular in Hong Kong, but when I tried them they tasted like something I’ve eaten plenty of times before. Not in a good way: they’re a bit like cheap junk snacks. Maybe that’s exactly why they’re popular in Hong Kong.
Otoko Ume Gummy
This one was really sour, so it was edible enough, but it didn’t really feel like a gummy.
Kataage Potato, ume flavor
It was just, you know, edible.
Marrons glacés
Made in China, and I think it was about 100 yen. Tasty for the price, but they were closer to crumbs than whole chestnuts. I figured they collect the failed marrons glacés and sell them cheap.
Kin-chan Noodle
It’s a cup ramen made in Tokushima, and it turned out to be really good. It tasted like a milder version of a yukgaejang cup noodle. Going by the ingredients list, they use proper ingredients too. The noodles are fried in lard, and the shrimp topping is pretty generous, so you get a real shrimp flavor. The price varies from supermarket to supermarket, but you can get it for around 100 yen, so it’s great value too.
Spring-summer Bacchus
Not bad either, but Rummy is better.
The Bezers
It’s a non-alcoholic beer, and it doesn’t taste good.
Panasonic nose hair trimmer
It’s a bit pricey, but the motor spins fast so it cuts nice and clean. It performs better than my old one, but it’s less portable. Personally I liked it.
Chicken mustard sandwich
They sell this at the convenience store, and the nutritional balance is pretty good. I guess it means you can get by without a Subway.
Puré Ring
Seems like decent value. There’s no jam-like filling, which actually makes it cleaner.
Puré Gummy, grape
Just so-so.
Anyway, I’m eating well out here.
