I stopped by Bupyeong Market for a bit. Exploring markets is always fun.
Junghwagak
Apparently, it became a super popular Chinese restaurant with massive lines after being featured on the Kim Jjamppong YouTube channel. Also, the prices are incredibly cheap. I actually wondered if these prices are even possible in 2025. Anyway, you’d have to wait about an hour to eat here, and I didn’t feel like going that far… so I think I’ll visit next time. The line was just too long.
Seed King Hotteok
The hotteok were really huge. They looked pretty tasty…

Sundal Soheulbu Bupyeong Branch 2
I saw that a Chinese restaurant I’d seen in Daerim had opened in Bupyeong too. I marked this place for my meal and walked around the market a bit more.
They’re selling quince…
I used to make quince liquor back in the day, but people don’t put in that kind of effort anymore… and it’s hard enough just to drink the alcohol that’s already available.
Convenience store whisky
Wait, they have From the Barrel? Hahaha…
Japanese ramen shop
I didn’t know there was a place like this in Bupyeong.
Patisserie Brown Cat
This place seems to have a cafe-like vibe…
Off to Sundal Soheulbu…
It has the kind of atmosphere you’d expect to find in Daerim.
The spread
Pretty standard.
Stir-fried potato shreds
Tastes similar to what I had in China.
Xiao Long Bao
They aren’t the super juicy style—more like the taste of steamed buns—but the dough was delicious, so it was worth eating. They really know how to handle flour-based dishes. Anyway, it’s not cheap if you eat like this, but it still feels like being in China. I think Northeastern Chinese food suits Koreans well. I want to visit China again someday, but I wonder when that will be… dot dot dot…
Revolutionary Liquor
I didn’t know they had this liquor. I’ve always liked Wulianshan, of course.
Market scenery
If Bupyeong Market becomes like Daerim… it might actually be more convenient since I wouldn’t have to go all the way to Daerim. If more places like this open up, I think I’ll visit Bupyeong more often.
