Sundal Soheulbu in Bupyeong

I stopped by Bupyeong Market for a bit. Wandering around a market is always fun.

Junghwagak

Sundal soheulbu.

Apparently it was featured on the Kim Jjamppong YouTube channel and has become a hugely popular Chinese place with an enormous line. And the prices are absurdly cheap. Cheap enough that I found myself wondering whether these prices are even possible in 2025. Anyway, that means you have to wait an hour to eat here, and I didn’t quite feel like going that far.. so I’m thinking I’ll drop in next time. The line was just too long..

Seed-filled king hotteok

Sundal soheulbu.

The hotteok really were huge. They looked pretty tasty, somehow..

The kind of Chinese restaurant I used to see over in Daerim has opened in Bupyeong too. I earmarked it for my meal and walked around the market a little more.

They sell quinces too..

Sundal soheulbu.

I used to make quince liquor back in the day, but I don’t have that kind of dedication anymore.. it’s hard enough just drinking the bottles I already have..

Convenience store whisky

Sundal soheulbu.

Hold on, they have From The Barrel here? Heh heh..

A Japanese ramen shop

Sundal soheulbu.

I had no idea Bupyeong had a place like this.

Patisserie Brown Cat

Sundal soheulbu.

This one seems to have more of a cafe vibe..

Off to Sundal Soheulbu..

Sundal soheulbu.

It feels exactly like something you’d find in Daerim.

The table

Sundal soheulbu.

Pretty standard.

Stir-fried shredded potato

Sundal soheulbu.

It tastes a lot like what I had in China.

Xiaolongbao

Sundal soheulbu.

It isn’t the style bursting with soup; it tastes more like a steamed bun, but the wrapper was good, so it was worth eating. They really are good with flour-based food.. Anyway, eating like this isn’t exactly cheap, but it does make you feel like you’ve come to China. Northeastern Chinese food seems to suit Korean palates well, too. I’d like to go back to China someday, but when that will be.. dot dot dot..

Geming Xiaojiu

Sundal soheulbu.

They had this liquor too. I’ve always liked Niulanshan anyway.

If Bupyeong Market turns into another Daerim.. that might actually be handy, since I wouldn’t have to go all the way to Daerim. If more places like this open up, I think I’ll end up going to Bupyeong more often.
