I don’t remember Palgong in Bongcheon-dong having such long lines before, but lately, the queues have been insane. Anyway, I finally got a chance to check it out.
The vibe here
Basically, if the line gets too long, they announce that they’re closing and stop taking people, but depending on the situation, they sometimes take a few more teams after that. So, if you live nearby and don’t want to deal with the uncertainty of the line, you might find it easier to just head there right around closing time.
Roughly this kind of atmosphere…

These were given to me for free as a thank you, since I helped out by explaining to the people behind me that the shop was closing…
Gan-jjajang (Stir-fried black bean noodles)
It looked delicious just by looking at it, and the flavor of the jjajang was really rich… To my taste, it felt similar to Hongmyung. I have to admit it’s pretty much top-tier, so it’s worth the wait. But the problem is that the wait is just too long… you have to stand there for at least an hour.
Mixing it well…
Excellent. Jjajang and Jjamppong are the pinnacle of Korean-style Chinese food, and this alone is delicious. But since you can’t eat just this all the time, you have to try other things occasionally, and these days there are more authentic Chinese restaurants opening up, so there are plenty of places to go. Which is a great thing.
