We’d had our meal, so dessert was next, right? Straight off to the dessert shop.
A hoto restaurant on the way
The building looks like a spaceship. The line was long, too. It’s a place called Hoto Fudo, which is popular and apparently shows up on TV all the time. If you come to Kawaguchiko as a tourist, this is exactly the kind of place you should go… but I’d insisted on going to a soba place instead, so I never got to try it… Tourist favorites aren’t bad either, after all…
Funari Gelato
Yamanashi is famous for its fruit, and this is a gelato shop specializing in gelato made from Yamanashi fruit.
Special menu
The menu
There’s quite a variety.
Today’s menu
There’s a lot on offer, but you can’t eat all of it…
Seasonal menu descriptions
Strawberry, peach, Shine Muscat, Kyoho grape, sweet potato, blueberry and so on, with descriptions of the menu for each season.
Mt. Fuji pie
It was pretty, so I took a photo.

Gelato
We ordered a variety.
Shine Muscat
It looks pretty, but the taste is just so-so. Strangely enough, the banana, which isn’t even a seasonal flavor, was the tasty one. It made me think that fancy fruits like Shine Muscat are just expensive and maybe not really suited to gelato…
Inside
Well… since we’d come all the way to Yamanashi, of course I wanted gelato made from Yamanashi’s specialty fruit, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s delicious. Another lesson learned…
