Yihao Gongguan, a Chinese Restaurant in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

I went back to Yihao Gongguan. I do wonder whether I’m going there too often, but the truth is there’s no better place for a quiet drink.

The atmosphere

Such a variety of seafood. I suspect what I ate was only a small part of it.

Crabs

I’m curious how you’d even eat crabs like these.

Shellfish

The freshness of the ingredients seems outstanding.

Shrimp

They have spiny lobster too.

Entrance

It’s lavish right from the entrance.

Appetizer

Delicious. But I couldn’t eat too much before getting on a plane, so I held back that day.

Peanuts

A light snack to go with drinks.

Shark fin

There’s a slightly eggy taste to it, but it’s a good dish for lining your stomach.

Tofu dish

Chicken skin

It seems to be something like a chicken skin salad.

Mantis shrimp

Fried mantis shrimp, and the meat was genuinely sweet. Can it really be this good? Seafood really is at its best when you eat it fresh.

Today’s sashimi

The spread

Fish

Meat

Lamb chops

These are always good.

Stir-fried meat

Stir-fried clams

Another good drinking snack that’s fun to pick the meat out of.

Fish

Pigeon

Really delicious. This is a dish I’d like to eat again.

Soft-shelled turtle

As I’ve said before, it tastes like chicken with pork skin attached. So I can’t really tell what’s special about it, and while the flavor isn’t bad, is it worth it if it’s expensive? I feel like you could just eat chicken and pork separately.

Cabbage

Water spinach

This time I didn’t overdo it and ate in moderation, but at a formal dinner you can’t really just skip the food and leave… So a place like this is best visited at a relaxed time on your own, but… relationships being what they are, it’s not that easy…
