Tomohana, a Soba Restaurant in Yamanashi

I was wondering where to have lunch in Yamanashi and picked a soba place. Honestly, going to a hoto restaurant would have been the better call, but I couldn’t be bothered with the long line, so soba it was.

The place

But it turned out to be a lot more impressive than I expected.

Garden

The garden is beautifully kept..

Objet

There’s a character.

Garden

You can tell a lot of effort went into it.

Entrance

Something about it feels like a lot of effort went in.

Back side

It looked like there might be lodging attached to the restaurant too.

Garden

Well tended.

Garden

Garden

There are lots of frogs.

Tengu

I didn’t expect to find something like this here..

Garden

The garden was so well looked after that I ended up taking a lot of photos.

Cat

The owner

He’s quite a character too.

Stylishly decorated. Great sense of aesthetics.

Decoration

I couldn’t help thinking, all this for a soba place?..

Soba tea

Nice and warm.

Soba

It’s 1,000 yen, and this is the only item on the menu.. The soba itself wasn’t bad, but no side dishes and a fixed portion size is a bit..

Soba tea

Anyway, I did enjoy it. But if I had to choose again, I think I’d go with the hoto place.. Still, shouldn’t a typical soba place at least serve a tamagoyaki?.. Eating just soba on its own felt pretty plain…

Garden

The garden was fun and the scenery was lovely, so it was decent, but the owner’s way of running the place isn’t exactly typical, so I don’t think I’ll be coming back.
