Link City, the Underground Shopping Mall in Shenzhen

I left COCO Park and was heading back to my hotel when I noticed what looked like an underground shopping arcade. So I went in for a bit, and it runs a whole block all the way to the next subway station. Even for someone like me, hardened by the Bupyeong underground mall, an underground arcade on this scale was beyond imagination. I even wondered whether it might be bigger than the COCO Park shopping mall itself.

Gimbap shop

Korean food has made it to a place like this..

It says “Hakka cuisine.”

There are a lot of Hakka-related restaurants around.

Inside

Don’t underestimate it just because it’s underground: it’s really wide, and there are lots of restaurants.

Sukiya

To think Sukiya has expanded even to a place like this..

Restaurant row

There are seemingly endless restaurants, and most of the seats are filled..

Beef noodle shop

Rice noodle shop

Passage

The big stores really just went on and on..

Restaurant

Restaurant

Restaurant

The scale is no joke..

Korean-Chinese (Joseonjok) bibimbap

The bibimbap place is popular.

Tanghulu shop

I bought an original hawthorn tanghulu, and it was sweet, tart, and delicious. Hawthorn seems to be especially tasty when made into tanghulu.

Rice dishes place

CoCo Ichibanya

There are lots of unusual shops.

They’re selling something..

I think it’s vinegar.

Fish shop

Muji, too..

Sushi place

I spotted Crayon Shin-chan, too..

There was something like a department store partway along..

Once inside, there were lots of people and a huge number of shops. It has several floors, but there wasn’t even enough time to get around the basement level..

Dried fruit and such..

They sell this in huge quantities here, too.

Upper floor

I ran out of time and couldn’t see it all.

Drinks, ice cream, and so on..

Even a place like this is crowded.

Hama Sushi

The Japanese sushi chain has come here, too.

The sheer size of it left me speechless. It’s hard to even see everything. When you see a shopping space this big and every bit of it filled with people, you realise that consumption in China is no joke. You could argue it’s only like this in the big cities, but China has so many big cities..
