I honestly wasn’t expecting much from Seongnae Bakery — it just happened to be on the way from Godeok to Songridan-gil, so I stopped in for a minute.

The bread at Seongnae Bakery
I didn’t get a shot of the front door.. anyway, one look at the palmier carré and I thought, hang on, I’ve seen this somewhere before — turns out the place came out of Ppangui Jeongseok in Seongsu-dong. That explains why it was on a different level.
Baguettes
I wasn’t sure something this small still counted as a baguette.. but it looked good, so I ordered the sausage baguette, only to be told it was already reserved..

So I got an olive stick instead, and it is genuinely delicious. Still warm, with a thin sugar coating almost like tanghulu, and the sour, salty olive makes it a textbook sweet-and-salty. You really have to eat it warm and right away for the full effect. This isn’t a bakery you just pass by — it’s good enough to make the trip for.

After the bakery I walked a lap around the neighborhood and there were plenty of promising-looking places. With Olympic Park Foreon going up nearby, I’d guess the area is on its way up.

It’s been through no end of controversy, but there it is now, a huge complex. I have a feeling this area will keep developing.
