There aren’t that many rye bread specialists in Korea.. so this visit to Roggenheim felt almost like the last spurt.
A place like this
The atmosphere is German enough in its own way. It was my first time in Godeok, and I hadn’t realised it was a neighbourhood like this.
The front entrance
This area turns out to have an enormous number of cram schools. Cram schools and rye bread.. somehow they seem to go well together.
New product announcement
Actually my target was this authentic German Pumpernickel, but apparently you can’t get one without pre-ordering.. I’ll have to order it by delivery next time..
Whole rye bread
Just looking at them, the European feel comes through strongly..
Rye bread
I bought the honey Pumpernickel and it’s really good.
Engadiner torte?
Something like this is unusual enough that I’d like to try it once, but rye bread was the goal for the day so I skipped it.
The breads
They sell all sorts of German breads.
German potato bread
I’m curious about breads like this too.
Tangzhong milk bread and more..
The bread here is really good too. Once you go looking, there are skilled bakers all over the place. That said, the acidity feels a little lacking, so I want to have another go at the black bread I couldn’t buy this time. I wonder what bread made by the authentic German method actually tastes like..
