The queue at Hinoly is so long that actually buying anything is no easy feat. Getting in line an hour before they open turned out to be the surest way to come away with bread.
The menu on my first visit
Everything sold out. That’s what happens if you turn up late. And even if you get there early, you still have a long wait ahead of you.
The entrance
Hinoly is down in the basement. It’s best to check their Instagram for the opening hours.
A cafe nearby
It looked good as I walked past, so I took a photo.
Inside
Everything is neat and tidy. But it looks like a basically one-person operation, and even the wrapping takes a fair while. I think it took me about two hours from start to finish.
The breads
There wasn’t much left by the time I got in.
On my next visit
Everything they had for sale was out on the racks. No wonder it all disappears in no time.
100% Rye
It honestly looked like a brick. It isn’t small either, and it’s so heavy that carrying it around is a chore. The flavour is plain, but it has a charm of its own. It would make good sandwiches too. This was when I started taking an interest in rye bread, and rye bread really does have a charm all its own. On top of that, one loaf is enough to last a week and it still isn’t expensive. You could call it half the price of anywhere else. No wonder people queue for two hours.
Coconut & Kaya
It tastes close to a brioche, the combination is fun, and it’s a big one. The value for money at this place really is outstanding.
I stopped by because I’d heard how popular it was, and the popularity is well deserved. Whether I’d queue for two hours again, though, I’m honestly not sure. The wait is just too long.
