Sunmaillard, a Bakery Cafe in Daeheung

Daeheung is about halfway between Hongdae and Gongdeok. The whole area got built up thanks to the Gyeongui Line Forest Park. Sunmaillard is a bakery that opened around there, and the interior looked so good that I’d been meaning to step inside one day.

This is the place

It’s pretty spacious.

The breads

Looks like the salt bread is popular, and so is the ciabatta.

Menu

They serve tea, and the prices turned out to be quite reasonable.

They sell mini stollen too.

Nice touch.

They also had plenty of bread for a proper meal.

Tables

The inside is done up beautifully too.

Pear & Ginger

At 6,000 won this is a seriously good price. And maybe it’s the balance, but the ginger and pear drifted up gently through it – a lovely cup. It beats the herbal tea at most hotels by a long way.

Eggplant and tomato focaccia

This one was really good. With tomato on top of the cheese it tastes close to a margherita pizza, and it’s baked well, so it’s delicious. I couldn’t think of a better weekend brunch.

To think there was a place this good tucked away here. It’s the kind of cafe where I’d want to spend a slow weekend with a book.
