Kotekichi, an okonomiyaki place in Nagoya

Nagoya Station is the transport hub, but the real heart of Nagoya has to be Sakae. In Seoul terms it’s something like Jongno or Gwanghwamun, I suppose..

A place like this

Nagoya kotekichi.

There’s a plaza, plus all sorts of sights, shopping and places to eat gathered around.

Wondering where to eat in Sakae, we ended up at Kotekichi.

Nagoya kotekichi.

A place like this.. it isn’t some great destination restaurant. Its strength is simply that the menu is varied. When you travel with people whose tastes differ from yours, you seem to end up at places like this..

Salad

Nagoya kotekichi.

Got to fill up on vegetables first.

Gyusuji nikomi (simmered beef tendon)

Nagoya kotekichi.

The portion was on the small side, but it was decent. Perfect as a drinking snack for the grown-ups.

Yamaimo okonomiyaki (with grated mountain yam)

Nagoya kotekichi.

This was decent too.

Steak

Nagoya kotekichi.

The beef looked like it was Australian, but the value wasn’t bad at all. For a place picked in a hurry it was a safe choice with no real misses.

Hachijuhachi Shouten

Nagoya kotekichi.

Turns out there’s a shop specialising in Uwajima taimeshi (sea bream over rice). Honestly, if I’d been on my own, curiosity alone would have taken me into a place like this.. oh well, nothing to be done..

A strawberry cake shop I spotted while walking

Nagoya kotekichi.

It’s a place called hanafru, and they seem to make them incredibly well. Nagoya has plenty of interesting spots too.
