Kosai City sits right next to Hamamatsu City, and just beyond that is Toyohashi in Aichi Prefecture. So while it is technically a city in Shizuoka, you could say it is closer to Aichi. I spotted a ramen shop by the roadside as I was passing through, looked it up, and the reviews turned out to be pretty good. The fact that they serve mapo noodles especially earns them big points.
The place
The sign is quite something.
From the side
This place is known for its niboshi ramen and its mapo noodles.
Ao-negi mabo-men
It tasted like a regular mapo sauce with ramen broth added to it.
The noodles
Thick, springy, wavy noodles that come coated in all that mapo sauce, which made them delicious. There is also the fun of digging out the wontons hidden among the noodles. On a hot day this kind of sharp, spicy heat really hits the spot. Unfortunately, this shop closed down not long after my visit. A real shame.
