Isetan Shinjuku and Prunier

Whenever I go to Tokyo I always stop by Isetan Shinjuku. It is where the best desserts and groceries are always gathered. Most department stores have their own strengths and something you can only get there, but even among them Isetan is a cut above.

It is a sweet I absolutely love, and Échiré used to sell it. They stopped, which was a shame, but a shop called le détail carries it now, so I picked one up. It is a butter cookie, crisp but with the butter flavour still very much alive. (You can even feel the butter coming off on your fingers.) Maybe that is why it goes so well with whisky, and there is a certain fun in breaking up a big cookie to eat it. I only make it there once in a while, but I hope they keep it around. (And if they sold it in Korea too, that would be the best…)

I had heard that caviar is having a moment lately, so — ah, in that case let me try it once in Japan — I went to Prunier, the caviar specialist inside Isetan, and had some caviar.
