Kinkaku-ji in Kyoto, Winter 2021

I got into a taxi after arriving in Kyoto. I had originally been thinking of going to Kiyomizu-dera, but the driver recommended Kinkaku-ji. He said they had recently re-applied the gold leaf. So I changed my destination and off I went to Kinkaku-ji.

Kyoto taxis are great fun, though there is the small problem that you need to be able to speak Japanese. Anyway, they served me well again this time.

The sheen really is different from before.. At this level I think we can give Kinkaku-ji its due.

Kyoto is the kind of place where a beautifully kept shrine like this just sits by the roadside..
