Zarusobaya on the Shiba shopping street

There is a soba shop called Zarusobaya on the Shiba shopping street. Soba as a genre is Japanese cuisine, but this is a place where you eat it about as casually as ramen. It cannot be easy to find B-grade food like this outside Japan..

The menu explained

Zarusobaya

This explains the black and the red.. black is soy sauce, red is the spicy one, and there is also a yellow one with curry in it and a crimson one.. Thoroughly B-grade.

Why it tastes good

Zarusobaya

It says the whole point is that everything is made fresh to order..

What Zarusobaya prides itself on

Zarusobaya

Apparently what would be an extra-large portion anywhere else is the standard size here. Then again it is 500 g, so I am not sure it deserves to be called extra-large.. And if you do order the large here, another 100 yen gets you a full kilo, or so they say..

Soba

Zarusobaya

I went with the small portion of noodles, and even so it is a lot. Had I ordered the regular I would nearly have failed to finish it..

The yellow one, probably

Zarusobaya

The amount of meat is staggering. It is not cheap, but it is the sort of bowl that bursts your stomach. And the quality of the ingredients may be a notch down, but the spices come together well and it tastes good.

The black one, probably

Zarusobaya

This one is good too.

The noodles

Zarusobaya

Eggplant and maitake tempura

Zarusobaya

The tempura is past B-grade level. The ingredients are fresh and the frying is skilled.

Shungiku tempura

Zarusobaya

It really was delicious. The only problem, if you can call it that, would be that there is too much of it? That is about it.. I just cannot eat the way I used to anymore..
