“Chahan” is short for “Chinese gohan”, which means fried rice. I had heard there was a place in Shinbashi that does fried rice really well, so I went one evening. Chahan-Oh means “the king of fried rice”, so just how good must it be to earn a name like that?

The price is a bit steep. And on top of that, no large portions. There is a guide on how to eat it, but you can just eat it however you like.

Having read it, it makes sense. They have a sister shop too, which has me curious.

Fried rice (chahan)
I was genuinely blown away. The rice is slightly firm, yet the flavor goes all the way through, and every single grain is coated in oil. It felt like they were chasing the ultimate fried rice. They say they use wagyu, and there is no way it would taste like this otherwise. Thinking back over every fried rice I have ever eaten, this place is number one. I no longer have any reason to eat fried rice in Korea.
Chicken soup
It goes well with the fried rice.
It has been a while since I found a place this genuinely good. If I ever start a night out in Shinbashi, the second stop will automatically be this place.
