I’m always checking the Tabelog rankings, and a place had climbed to what was effectively the number one spot in the bakery category, so I planned a trip out to Setagaya around it. Plaisir is the place in Sangenjaya famous for its cakes, so hearing they had opened a bakery, my expectations were high.

It sits about halfway between Seijogakuen-mae and Soshigaya. They open at noon, but a few of the breads had already sold out.

There are meal breads as well as breads for snacking.

If you look closely you’ll notice they sell by the gram.

Buy a whole loaf and the price is pretty scary.

I bought some and tried them, and the quality was very high. I’d had bread somewhat like this before, but I don’t think I’d ever had bread that used so many different ingredients and brought them together in such harmony. The number-one-in-Tokyo result made sense to me. I’d like to go often, but the trouble is that Setagaya is just far away. Here’s hoping business goes well and they open a branch in the city center like Signifiant Signifié or Bigot..
