Teissoku, a Tempura Counter in Shinbashi

I heard there was a reasonably priced tempura place in Shinbashi where you eat at the counter, so I went. Lunch is 1,200 yen and dinner is 3,000 yen, which is a pretty startling price.

Shrimp head

teissoku

Real tempura, fried in real oil.

Corn
teissoku

Light and clean.

The house specialty

teissoku

It’s a palm-sized shrimp tempura, and that’s where the name Teissoku comes from: it means a size that fits in your hand. The thing is, shrimp this size isn’t all that expensive; it’s things like kuruma-ebi that cost a lot, which is why you get to enjoy tempura here at such a low price.

Probably potato

teissoku

The ingredients aren’t pricey, but the freshness is outstanding.

Eggplant

teissoku

Not a single miss.

Maitake tempura

teissoku

Everything was good, but the aroma of the maitake was fantastic. The portions are small, but a course like this at this price is close to impossible. I’d like to come back with someone.
